Additional Information
This page explains how counselling with me works and what you can expect from our work together. It’s sometimes called a counselling agreement. It isn’t a legal contract — it’s simply here to offer clarity, transparency, and shared understanding. The aim is to help avoid misunderstandings and to make sure you feel informed about boundaries, confidentiality, and practical arrangements, so counselling can feel as safe and supportive as possible.
You’re very welcome to ask questions or raise any concerns at any point.
Purpose of Counselling
Counselling offers a confidential, supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgement.
We will work at your pace, focusing on whatever you feel is important to bring.
Confidentiality
What you share in sessions is confidential.
There are a few important exceptions:
If I believe you or someone else is at serious risk of harm
If I am legally required to disclose information (for example, relating to terrorism, drug trafficking, or child protection)
In clinical supervision, where your identity is fully anonymised
If I ever feel it’s necessary to break confidentiality, I will aim to discuss this with you first wherever possible.
Supervision
As part of ethical practice, I attend regular clinical supervision.
This supports me to reflect on my work and ensure you’re receiving appropriate, ethical care.
Your identity is always kept confidential.
Cancellation & Missed Sessions
Please give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel a session
Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged at the full fee
If I need to cancel, I will give as much notice as possible and offer a rescheduled session
Holidays and Breaks
Any planned breaks will be discussed in advance.
You’re free to pause or end counselling at any time, and we can talk together about what feels most supportive.
Emergencies
I do not provide an emergency or crisis service.
If you are in immediate danger or distress, please contact emergency services or a crisis line such as Samaritans (116 123).
Notes and Record-Keeping
I may keep brief session notes, which are stored securely and in line with UK GDPR.
You have the right to access your records.
Boundaries
Our relationship is a professional one.
For your safety and privacy, contact outside of sessions is limited to scheduling or administrative matters.
Consent
By signing this agreement, you confirm that you understand the information above and agree to these arrangements.
You are encouraged to ask questions or raise concerns at any time.
